The Voucher Choice Program, formerly known as “Section 8”, is a rental assistance program provided by HUD that assists individuals and familes with paying rent to private landlords. It is limited to those families that are below the Very Low Income Limit as set by HUD’s Fair Market Rent (FMR) for the New Bedford area based upon the number of members in the family.

The current income limits for the Voucher Choice Program:

  • 1 Person $20,650
  • 2 Person $23,600
  • 3 Person $26,550
  • 4 Person $29,450
  • 5 Person $31,850
  • 6 Person $34,200
  • 7 Person $36,550
  • 8 Person $38,900

The Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP) and the Alternative Housing Voucher Program (AHVP) are two state rental assistance programs that are funded through the Department of Housing and Community Development.

The current income limits for the MRVP Program:
