The Human Resources Department manages and supports the New Bedford Housing Authority's most valuable assets - its employees. In addition to its role as an advisor to management, Human Resources assists in the maintenance and distribution of Authority policy, oversees the selection and hiring of staff, maintains employee records, and administers employee benefits.

DATA SPECIALIST – TENANT SELECTION

This is a responsible, full-time staff support position in which the incumbent interviews applicants for public and leased housing programs.  He/she also performs a variety of routine clerical work involving data entry and maintenance of applicant files.  Interacts with applicants, residents, and the general public on a daily basis.

Possession of a high school diploma and training in business English, math, and data entry is required as is prior experience and general knowledge of office practices.  Prior experience in communicating effectively with others, especially those having social and economic problems and those facing barriers to self-sufficiency, is required.  The person selected for this position shall possess superior oral and written communication skills, the ability to organize and manage time and work effectively, computer literacy, and an ability to work well as a staff member within a team setting.  The ability to communicate fluently in Spanish is also highly desirable.

MAINTENANCE AIDE

This is a responsible, full-time maintenance staff support position in which the incumbent performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, landscaping) on buildings, apartments, grounds, and equipment.

Possession of a high school diploma/GED with training in the Industrial Arts is required.  Basic knowledge of the heating, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry trades is also required.  The successful candidate shall be skilled in the performance of basic maintenance and repairs of buildings, grounds and equipment, and shall have a working knowledge of the materials and equipment used for such maintenance and repairs.  The incumbent will be expected to be fit to perform manual work and be able to work in unpleasant conditions such as inclement weather, infested spaces, and extreme temperatures.  Some manual dexterity is called for in the performance of work tasks, and possession of a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and the ability to operate motor vehicles is also a requisite of the position.

RESIDENT SERVICE COORDINATOR-ABL

This position involves the implementation of wellness, educational, social, and enrichment activities that engage and support residents in progressive professional and personal growth towards the attainment of economic self-sufficiency.  The Resident Service Coordinator for the ABL Program will work closely with resident population and direct service community providers in the development and coordination of service plans for resident employment, academic, and health and wellness goals.

Preferably a two-year college degree in a human service-related field; a high-school degree may be acceptable with significant experience.  Licensed Social worker and/or a Certified Resident Service Coordinator preferred.  Relevant work experience pertaining to having provided or coordinated supportive services working with low-income families is preferred.  The ability to speak a foreign language would be extremely advantageous.
